BASIC RESTORATION

One of the more common needs in photo restoration is simply
bringing
brightness and color back to an image - and sometimes fixing the background.

Sometimes an older sepia toned image lacks clarity or
sharpness. By moving
to black and white you can correct for this - which also helps to fix
discolorations.
Also, minor cropping was done here to fit to a 5x7, but obviously this is
optional.

Some photos need contrast and level adjustments, detailing,
and even repairs. This
image shows a tear in the upper right and lower left corner, and cracks across
the
dress of the girl on the left and the chest of the girl in the middle.

Quite often we have beautiful subjects in our photos that have
undesirable backgrounds.
It's important to replace a background with something that is believable and not
distracting from the subject. Sometimes the background can be completely
replaced.

As photos age, they can get discolored, splotchy, and faded.
Sometimes they can
get mold, rust, or acid burns. Restoring them digitally allows you to make
multiple
copies without loss of clarity, and they can be shared on CD, web pages, etc.

Another example of using levels and contrast and then cropping the image.

This one was actually more difficult than it looks.
Other than the obvious difference in color and
brightness, we had to scan it through the picture frame glass because the photo
had adhered to
the glass over the years causing a tear. We also removed much of the
shadow on her shoulder
and whitened her teeth a bit.

Restoration is not limited to photographs. If you have
old documents we can bring those
to life as well. Look at the incremental steps in improving this simple
comic strip.
